General Notes: Husband - James Andrew Gillgrist

He was reared in Marion Township, Butler County, PA, and attended the public school during his boyhood days. He learned and followed the trade of a carpenter when a young man, then turned his attention to agricultural pursuits, at which he was quite successful. He purchased the old Marshall farm of 100 acres in Marion Township, on which he erected a set of modern and substantial buildings, creating a highly improved property. Religiously he and his family were members of the Church of God. Mr. Gillgrist was a Democrat in politics, and served multiple terms as tax collector. [HBC 1909, 1469]
