General Notes: Husband - William P. Graham

He received his education in the common schools of Spruce Hill township, Juniata County, Pennsylvania, and at the noted Tuscarora Academy in Beale township, and then remained at home with his mother on the farm until his enlistment in the United States army. He was enrolled at Carlisle, in Capt. D. B. Jenkins' Company F, Twelfth Pennsylvania Cavalry. He took part in a number of engagements, including actions at Harper's Ferry, Frederick City, and different engagements through the Shenandoah valley. He was in the service for nineteen months, and although at one time he received severe injuries by a fall from his horse, he remained with his command. He was promoted, after the battle of Winchester, to the rank of corporal. The exposures and severities of the service caused the hearing of Mr. Graham to become defective. He was mustered out at Philadelphia, July 25, 1865. After the war, he remained on the homestead farm until 1870, when he removed to a farm of ninety-one acres on which he resided for many years. It was formerly owned by his grandfather, William Patton, and subsequently by John Gilliford. On it he enjoyed success both as a peach grower and a stock-raiser. In 1890, he added sixty acres to his farm. He was a member of Wilson Post, No. 134, G. A. R.; also of Spruce Hill Grange, P. of H., in which organization he held the office of treasurer. He was a Republican. He was a consistent member of the Presbyterian church, and was connected with the Sunday-school work as superintendent. He never used either alcoholic drinks or tobacco.
