Venango Spectator, Franklin, PA
March 24, 1881
Mrs. Mary Gilmores 79th Birthday
Last Friday the relatives and intimate friends of Mrs. Mary Gilmore assembled at her home in the borough of Utica to celebrate her seventy-ninth birthday. The venerable recipient of that tribute of honor and affection is the widow of the late John Gilmore, who died in 1867. Her parents, John and Jane Hanna, were among the earliest settlers of Venango County and on the 18th of March, 1802, near the bank of Frenchcreek and about five miles below Utica, she was born. On the 18th of April, 1828, she became the wife of John Gilmore, their union lasting nearly forty years, until it was broken by the death of her husband. Eight children were born to her - seven sons and one daughter - of whom four are yet living, three sons and one daughter. The living sons are Brice, the eldest, whose home is in Wisconsin; John and Aaron W., who live in Mercer County; and Margaretta, who lives in Utica. Mrs. Gilmore is a sister of our venerable townsman, James Hanna, and an aunt of J. L. Hanna. The good old lady has always resided within a few miles of the place of her birth. She has seen her native county pass from the condition of a wilderness to all the comforts and privileges that fruitful industry and the smiles of a beneficent Providence could give it. She has in all these years of her earthly pilgrimage been a devoted wife, a faithful mother and a kind friend. It is fitting to observe the birthday of such a woman and to show her that she has not outlived the tender affection of her children and other relatives nor the kindly regard of her neighbors and friends.

Notes: Marriage

Other sources state they were married March 18.
