General Notes: Husband - John Gilson, Sr.

He was a native of New England, either Massachusetts or Connecticut, but before removing to Warren, Pennsylvania, had resided for some years at a point on the Delaware river in New York. His family, accompanied by two other families, reached Warren in May, 1803, floating down from Olean on a raft. John Gilson, jr., was the youngest of a family of eleven children, all of whom lived to be seventy-five or more years of age.

He served in the Revolutionary War.

He was of Scotch descent, and came to America, locating for a short time in Olean, Cattaraugus County, New York. While there he framed a house and rafted it down the Allegheny River until he reached the place where Warren, Pennsylvania, is now situated. There he landed his house and built the first frame residence where the town of Warren now stands. [BOB37, 15]
