General Notes: Husband - Joseph Alward

For the settlers of the western part of Forward township, Butler County, a school was established at an early date just north of where Evansburg is located. One schoolmaster there was a wounded veteran of the War of 1812, Joseph Alward. He came there a widower, and afterward married again. Later, he settled near Tarentum, where he was shot by a neighbor with whom he had a dispute, and died from the effects of the wound.
