General Notes: Husband - James Stirling Glenn

He grew to manhood in Concord Township, Butler County, PA, and obtained his educa­tion in the district schools. He learned the carpenter trade and pursued it most successfully for many years, many of the substantial buildings through Butler County testifying to his skill. In June, 1864, he enlisted for service in the Civil War, entering Company A, Sixth Regi­ment, Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery, which operated in the Shenandoah Valley, which at that time was a very dangerous section of the country, the Union soldiers being under almost continuous fire. Later his regiment was detailed for fort duty in the protection of the city of Washington. He received his honorable dis­charge in June, 1865, and then returned to his previous peaceful pursuits. In 1866 he went to Leelanau County, Michigan, but in a few years returned to Butler County, and in 1874 he settled on a farm in Allegheny Township. He was a member of the Scrubgrass Presbyterian Church, a member of the Session, and for years served as one of its elders. For three years he was a member of the School Board of Al­legheny Township, and for nine years was township assessor and collector. He was a valued comrade of S. J. Rosenberry Post, No. 538, Grand Army of the Repub­lic, at Eau Claire. In politics he was a Re­publican. [TCHBC, 1133]
