General Notes: Husband - Louis Godfrey

He fled from France in 1850 to avoid the persecution of Louis Napoleon, he being Republican in sentiment and consequently obnoxious to the new ruler of the French people. Arriving in America he began business in New York city, and was very
successful in increasing the liberal sum of money with which he came to this country. He died in New York from heart disease brought on through a sudden shock from the loss of his wealth by unwittingly lending a large sum of money on Sunday, thus invalidating the claim. [HVC 1890, 944]
