General Notes: Husband - Louis Marchand

He attended public school at Wray's, Byerly's, Stewartsville and Jacksonville, successively. Also a school in Circleville conducted by the Rev. William Fleming; two sessions at the Rev. Oliver Katz’s Academy, Elders Ridge Academy for two years; and when about prepared to enter college enlisted at Pittsburgh, August 14, 1862, for three years, in Captain John Jay Young’s Independent Battery G, Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery. He was stationed at Fort Delaware and there performed garrison and guard duty until his discharge, June 18, 1865. About one year after leaving the service he located at Irwin, Pennsylvania, and entered into partnership with John J. Hurst in the general store and drug business. Mr. Hurst subsequently retired and Mr. Marchand continued alone. He was burnt out at one time, but rebuilt and continued in the drug line until 1876, when he disposed of his business to his brother, Dr. James I. Marchand, and retired from active pursuits. In 1888 he removed to Allegheny, and in 1899 to Pittsburgh, where he thereafter resided.
