General Notes: Husband - Amos Trout

He was born on the family homestead and was educated in the subscription schools and the common schools. At eighteen he began farming for himself and thereafter devoted his energies to that calling, also dealing in stock. He was the owner of one hundred and ten acres of the original homestead. He raised the higher grades of stock, among them the short-horned cattle, which he was one of the first to introduce. His landed estate comprised in all some three hundred acres. In 1862 he built a residence and subsequently erected accompanying buildings. His lands were intersected by coal veins. He always took a deep interest in politics, and filled the office of school director, also serving on the poor board. In 1897 he was elected to the house of representatives from Westmoreland county, serving one term. During this period he was a member of the committees on forestry, foreign relations, agriculture and many others. He at different times served on the county committee. His political affiliations were with the Republicans. He was a member of the Lutheran church, in which he served as trustee.
