He was a native of Northampton County, Pennsylvania, where he married and some years after his marriage emigrated to Hempfield township, Westmoreland County. He purchased and lived on a farm later owned by Mr. Isaac Klingelsmith.

He was a native of Germany who immigrated to America at an early day, settling in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
