He was a brilliant man, but never reached his full potential. He left Tri State College, where he was with­in one semester of graduation as a mechanical engineer, to take a banking job during the Depression. Unhappy there, he soon joined his father in the oil business. For some time he was the chief en­gineer for a gold mine in Arizona. After being severely injured there he returned to Pennsylvania and again became associated with his father as an independent oil producer. The family had no contact with him after about 1950.
