He was reared upon the homestead farm, received a common school education, and was engaged in farm­ing until thirty years of age. In 1880 he embarked in merchandising at Murrinsville. He and his family were members of the Catholic church. He was one of the influential citizens of Marion township, was a stanch Democrat, and became postmaster of Murrinsville in 1893.
