He was born in Fenwick, Ayrshire, Scotland. In 1820, he came to Pennsylvania, to the Ligonier valley, (on the Indiana side,) and in 1822 he removed to what is now Young township, Indiana County. In 1826 he removed to another tract occupied by him for many years.
