General Notes: Husband - Archie Martin Graham


He went to the public schools of Washington township, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, and then to Volant Academy, Scio College and Mount Union College, at Alliance, Ohio. He studied law in the office of Ex-Judge J. Norman Martin, and was admitted to the bar on September 9, 1897, and immediately began the practice of his profession in New Castle, practicing in all the courts, including Appellate Court. He was associated for twenty-three years with Judge Martin. In 1917 he formed partnership with J. V. Cunningham, under the firm name of Cunningham & Graham. Mr. Graham was solicitor for the Pennsylvania Railroad in the tenth district, and was solicitor for the First State Bank, also director and solicitor of the First National Bank of Volant.
During the Spanish-American War Mr. Graham, in 1898, enlisted in Company B, 16th Pennsylvania Regiment. He served through the Porto Rican Campaign, and enlisted in Troop F, Pennsylvania National Guard in 1904, at the time of its organization, and rose through every grade up to captain during sixteen years of service. He retired from the Mexican border on account of physical disability, with the rank of brevet-major. During the World War he did much stimulating and effective "four-minute" speaking. He was a thirty-second degree Mason, belonging to New Castle Lodge, No. 642, of New Castle, and Zem Zem Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, at Erie. He also belonged to the Loyal Order of Moose, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the Spanish-American War Veterans (one of the first Commanders of the camp in New Castle), and the Sons of Veterans. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
