General Notes: Husband - James Rankin


He was reared on the homestead in Fairview township, Butler County, PA, attended the dis­trict school of his neighborhood, and adopted farming as his vocation. In Feb­ruary, 1864, he enlisted in Company B, One Hundred and Third Pennsylvania Volunteers, and served until July 10, 1865, when he was honorably discharged. He was a member of the United Presbyterian church, and was superintendent of the Sabbath school. In politics, he was a Republican, and was assessor, super­visor and collector in his township.
