He attended Graham School and was graduated from Rocky Grove High School in 1917. He attended Baldwin-Wallace College Law School, completed his study and was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1926. But because of illness, he never did establish a law practice. However, he was employed as an accountant at the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company for several years. He was hospitalized from 1932 to 1947. From 1947 to 1970 he was employed at the Oil City Hospital. He was an accomplished musician on piano and violin and sang with the Seneca Methodist Church choir.
