In 1816 he emi-grated with his family to America and settled on what is known as Beaver Meadows, in Venango County, Pennsylvania, where he re-mained for a few years, and then purchased a farm of six hundred acres in Washington township, Clarion County, Pennsylvania, where he lived until his death.

Members of this family were early settlers of Clarion County, Pennsylvania, who came to America from the district lying on the border of Holland and Germany, lived for a time in Lancaster and reached Clarion County, settling at Fryburg, soon after the beginning of the nineteenth century.
