He was of Scotch ancestry, his father having come to America from Scotland. He followed the livery business at Byrom Center, Mercer County, PA, and at Garfield, Forest County, and incidentally doing a great deal of teaming. Later he moved onto a farm, where he spent the rest of his days. He was identified with local activities, belonging to the Odd Fellows lodge at Byrom Cen­ter and to the Presbyterian Church, and he served as supervisor in Forest County, elected on the Democratic ticket, which he always supported.
