General Notes: Husband - John J. Wells

He was educated in the schools of Independence Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, and at an academy at Cadiz, Ohio. He then returned to the home farm and resided in Washington County thereafter, with the exception of two years he spent on a California ranch, and two years following his marriage, when he resided near Mingo, Ohio. In 1879 he came to his own farm which was very valuable property. He never tested for oil or gas, but sold a top vein of coal to great advantage. He had one of the best improved properties in the township, having erected all the substantial farm buildings and a thoroughly modern, up-to-date residence, in which he installed water-pipes and heating apparatus of improved kind, with other comforts.
He and his family were members of the Presbyterian Church at Independence, in which he was an elder for twenty years. In his political views he was a Democrat, and he has served in the offices of school director and supervisor.
