General Notes: Husband - John Hayes, Esq.

He was an early settler at Donegal, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [CBRCP-CCUS, 858]

He was the well-known deputy surveyor of Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, and afterwards of Union County; in the former capacity he made many surveys in the eastern end of Centre County.

In 1786 he came to Buffalo valley (now in Union County), and married. His father had bought the Andrew Forster farm above Mifflinburg in 1790, which at his death was purchased by his son John.

He was a government surveyor and moved to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. While engaged in surveying he had many experiences, and on one occasion narrowly escaped the hatchet of an Indian. [BACC 1905, 700]
