General Notes: Husband - Simpson R. Miller


He was educated in the public schools and at the Chambersburg High School. At the age of eighteen he began life as clerk and bookkeeper in his father's store, where he remained five years. After completing his apprenticeship he returned to the store, and was clerk and bookkeeper for twelve years. He then engaged in the grocery business for a year, worked at his trade for a year, and again went into the grocery business with his brother-in-law, H. H. Myers. In 1891, he was appointed a letter carrier in Chambersburg. In partnership with D. L. Greenawalt, he was the owner of a fruit farm in Greene township; he also owned a fruit farm of one hundred acres near Scotland, in conjunction with A. L. Rogers. It comprised 10,800 peach and 4,000 apple trees. At the death of H. M. White in 1903, he was appointed attorney in fact for the executrix. He was a member of Zion's Reformed Church, and was a member of the Consistory. He was also a member of the I. O. O. F., Knights of Malta, Modern Woodmen, and Royal Arcanum. He was a member of the Letters Carriers' Mutual Benefit Association.
