General Notes: Husband - Charles Greene

He received his education under a private tutor. He was a brilliant scholar and a good linguist, speaking four different languages with fluency, and had a smattering of several others. He came to America in 1861, and, after visiting various points of interest, settled in California, where he tried his luck at gold mining. In 1864 he gave up prospecting for gold and came to Warren, Warren County, Pennsylvania, with Mr. Mead, a native of Conewango township. Mr. Greene at once took a great interest in the place, where he soon became a great favorite. After a winter of business, coupled with many brilliant social gatherings, where he was always a welcome guest, Mr. Greene left Warren County and went to Virginia with the avowed intention of returning to Denmark, but while in Warren he had formed the acquaintance of Louisa Mead, and now found that his attachment to her was much stronger than his home ties. He therefore returned to Warren, and, after a prosperous wooing, was accepted, and at once identified himself with the interests of that community. He was a man of exceptionally lofty ideals, and possessed a fine sense of honor, great business ability, and good intellectual attainments. He cast his first vote for Abraham Lincoln. After his marriage he took to farming and dealing in farm produce, being very successful at the latter, and followed that occupation until his demise, . His loss was a severe blow to the community, where he was universally beloved.
