General Notes: Husband - Matthew Greer

He was born in Ireland, immigrated to Pennsylvania with his parents when eleven years old, and settled in Washington County, where he grew to maturity. In 1835 he came to Butler County, and purchased a farm of 287 acres in Buffalo (now Jefferson) township, near Hannahstown. Later he sold all of his land with the exception of seventy-five acres, on which he resided until 1850. In that year he bought a part of the McCall tract of 175 acres, and there he died more than thirty years later. In politics, he was first a Whig and afterwards a Republican, and served as county commissioner, school director, auditor and collector.
