General Notes: Husband - Andrew Griffin

He enrolled 25 July 1861 in Company C. "Venango Grays," Tenth Regiment, Pennsylvania Reserves, which mustered into the United States service as the Thirty-ninth Volunteers, and was honorably discharged at Petersburg, Virginia, July 25, 1864. The Venango Grays were recruited at Franklin. "Nearly a thousand dollars were contributed for its equipment; the uniforms were of local manufacture, made by the ladies of the town from cloth obtained at the Kennerdell mills in Clinton township." In his invalid pension declaration Andrew claimed, "About the Fall of 1863, near Culpepper, Virginia, I contracted Catarrh of the head, the effects of which have entirely destroyed my sense of smell, impaired my memory, produced dizziness of the head, with ringing or deafness in the ears and dry cough." For about two years after returning from the war, he helped in his father's hotel in Franklin. From then until his death he followed the trade of painter at various places in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
