General Notes: Husband - John T. Griffith

He was well educated, and for a time was associated with his father in his lumbering and oil operations, but in 1877 he located in Kane and thereafter was largely engaged in lumbering and general merchandising. After a few years alone he formed a partnership with his brother Webster, under the firm name J. T. & W. Griffith, a most successful association that was only terminated by death. After the discovery of oil and gas the firm became deeply interested in both and were among the heaviest and strongest operators in that field.
He was an active and influential Republican and a leader of the party in the county. He served as school director for many years and was always a warm friend of the public school system. In 1888 he was the candidate of his party for representative in the state legislature and was elected by a handsome majority. He was returned by his constituents in 1890 for a second term. He was very popular in the town and took an especial interest in the fire department where his memory is perpetuated by the Griffith Hook and Ladder Company, named in his honor and of which he was a member. He was a Royal Arch Mason, a Knight of St. John and Malta, a Knight of Pythias, a Knight of the Maccabees and member of the Royal Arcanum. In religious faith he was a Congregationalist, belonging to the First Church of Kane.

She was educated in the public schools, and was a lifelong member of the Congregational church. After the death of her husband she continued her residence at Kane, Pennsylvania.
