General Notes: Husband - Thomas Shaw

He was born on the farm owned by his father, and where he continued to live. The home farm contained 200 acres of well-cultivated land, and in connection with the general management of the place Mr. Shaw devoted much attention to stock raising, making a specialty of Holstein cattle, Shropshire sheep and Chester-White swine. In politics, he voted the Republican ticket; and he and Mrs. Shaw were members of the Chartiers Cross Roads United Presbyterian Church in Chartiers township, in which he was an elder, an office also filled by his father in the same church for many years.

He received the usual country school education in his boyhood and when his older brothers went into the army and later made homes for themselves in the West, a large part of the farm work fell on him and he always remained on the old place. He carried on general farming and stock raising and had a large herd of registered and graded cattle, at one time he was engaged in the extensive breeding of registered Holstein cattle, Shropshire sheep and Chester White hogs. He had a dairy business and supplied the Arden mines with milk.
