General Notes: Husband - Samuel Marshall

---

In early life he learned the trade of tanner with his brother William and worked at same in his brother's tannery be-fore his marriage. After his marriage he built a house and conducted a tannery about a quarter of a mile from his brother Wil-liam's location. Here he lived for many years, following farming as well as his trade, and in time also became interested in the mercantile business. He was known as "Tanner Sam," to distinguish him from oth-ers of the name. In 1847 he sold this tract and moved to near Bryan, in what is now Cowanshannock township, purchasing the farm of 170 acres on which he resided dur-ing the remainder of his life.
