He and his wife first located at Frankfort Springs, Pennsylvania, where he practiced medicine for a few years, after which they moved to Pittsburgh, where he followed his profession until age and ill health compelled him to desist. For many years he was an elder in the Sixth Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh.
