General Notes: Husband - David Hamilton

He was born in County Derry, Ireland, and in that country was married, one son, James, being born to them before their emigration to America. On coming to the United States they located near Greensburg, Pennsylvania, where Mr. Hamilton spent two years in the employ of Judge Young, a prominent man of that day. In 1805 he purchased 180 acres of land in Perry township, Jefferson County, and in the midst of the forest located his family, their home being a round-log cabin. He afterward built a hewed-log house, in which he lived until his death.

He came in 1803, with his wife and one child, James, to Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, where he worked for Judge Young for four years, and obtained the money with which to purchase the land above named [a farm within one mile of the corner of Indiana, Armstrong and Jefferson counties, the farm being both in Indiana and Jefferson], at the rate of one dollar and a quarter per acre. In 1807, when the family removed to the land, they came in a wagon to the present site of Shelocta, and thence, there being only a path or trail to their destination, they forwarded their baggage on pack-horses.
