General Notes: Husband - Richard Gregg Hancox

Unk newspaper,
Richard G. Hancox.
Richard G. Hancox, aged 65, one of the best-known residents of Franklin, prominent as an oil producer and in Masonic circles, died at 1 o'clock Thursday morning at his home, 1314 Otter street.
He was born at Rynd Farm, March 7, 1863, the son of James Hancox and Sarah Gregg Hancox. He removed with his parents to St. Petersburg during the early oil excitement and later went to Galloway as a boy of 15 and began his work in the oil industry as a pumper.
On December 24, 1888, he was married to Sallie A. Kinnear, who survives, together with two children, Richard A. Hancox and Mrs. Hazel Hancox Smith, both of Franklin. Mr. Hancox is also survived by one sister, Mrs. A. J. Sibley, two brothers, Lee Hancox, of Rockland, and Thomas Hancox, of Texas. He is also survived by three grandchildren.
Mr. Hancox had a wide early experience as a driller of both oil and water wells. He drilled oil wells in the Cumberland mountains and water wells in Cheyenne, Wyo., for the Northern Pacific railroad. Oil companies many times entrusted him with missions to distant parts of the country, relying implicitly upon his judgment. His local interests as a producer were together with A. J. Sibley, Dr. J. W. Leadenham and G. D. McElphatrick in the Foster, Bullion, and Pearl fields, and he had also a number of holdings individually.
Mr. Hancox was for many years a Mason and was a member of Myrtle Lodge, No. 316, Venango Chapter, No. 211, Franklin Commandery, No. 44, Knights Templar, and of the Washington Club. He was also a member of the Maccabees.
One of the activities of Hancox in connection with the Masonic fraternity was as a trustee of the Franklin Fraternal Federation, the organization through which the local Masons lately improved and enlarged their building.
Mr. Hancox was very well known and highly esteemed by a wide circle of acquaintances. His genial qualities earned for him a high place in the regard of his associates, and his business judgment and wise outlook upon the affairs of life generally were highly valued.
The funeral is to take place at the residence on Sunday, at an hour to be announced later, and is to be in charge of the Masonic bodies.

General Notes: Wife - Sallie A. Kinnear
