He was a pioneer in what is now Fairview township, Butler County, Pennsylvania.

He was a native of Scotland, the date of his coming to America is not known, but he settled in Clarion County, Pennsylvania, near Eldorado, where he reared his family. He was a pioneer in Methodism. [PAHP iii, 161 ]
