General Notes: Husband - William Delbert Keefer

Until he was 13 years of age, he attended the schools of his native city, and then came to Clarion County, PA, but later removed to Armstrong County, where he was living at the outbreak of the Civil War. At Kittanning, he enlisted on Sept. 24, 1861, in Co. B, 103rd Reg., for 3 years. He was sworn into the service at Kittanning. With the Army of the Potomac he participated in numerous battles, including the seven-days fight on the Peninsula, the Peninsula Campaign and Goldboro, NC. Re-enlisting as a musician in Co. F. same Regiment he served until the close of the War. On Apr. 4, 1864, at Plymouth, NC, he was taken prisoner and after being confined at Andersonville through the summer, he was transferred in the fall to Florence, NC. After 11 months spent in the Rebel prisons, he was finally paroled at Goldsboro, NC, on Apr. 24, 1865. At this time he weighed only 95 pounds, the effect of the privations and suffering. The following June he was honorably discharged at Washington, D.C., and returned to his home in Armstrong County. Later he moved to Clarion County.
He was quite religious, and gave most of the money from his Army Pension and some oil productions, to build a small Church of God in West Monterey, near the Railroad Station.
