General Notes: Husband - David Shumaker

He was a very young child when he was brought to Beaver County, Pennsylvania, by his parents, and the remainder of his life was spent there. He was apprenticed to learn the carpenter's trade, and followed this calling for a number of years. Later, when Beaver commenced to grow, he established himself as a contractor, and in this capacity executed some of the most important contracts in the town. He was also extensively engaged as a coal operator and dealer. He was active in the interests of the Republican party, served as a member of the common council, and in a number of other local public offices.
