General Notes: Husband - Benjamin Hartshorn

He obtained his education in the district schools and always lived on the land that came to him from his father and grandfather. About 100 acres were cleared and under cultivation, while the remainder was in woodland, the timber being valuable and it was largely used as pasture ground. Mr. Hartshorn had no coal bank open but there was an underlay of from four to five feet of fire clay that had never been developed. It would seem that the grandfather of Mr. Hartshorn had more than ordinary foresight and good judgment when he made his selection of virgin land.
He was a stockholder in the Rural Telephone Company of Pike township.
