Jacob F. Ziegler, 80, of 125 Englewood Avenue, well known local resident for the past 16 years and former resident of Maple Shade, died at the Oil City Hospital at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday following an extended illness.
Mr. Ziegler, who was a carpenter by trade, had been a patient at the hospital for the past 10 months. He was well-known in this section as a hunter, in spite of his advanced age he had continued enjoying the sport of hunting up to the time of his illness.
He had served as Sunday School superintendent and had been active in the affairs of the Mt. Zion Methodist Chuyrch, which is now disbanded. He also sang in the choir of that church. Since coming to OIl City 16 years ago, where he made his home with his son, Arthur A. Ziegler, Englewood Avenue, he had attended the Grace M. E. Church and the Men's Bible Class of that church.
The son of the late David and Sarah Miller Ziegler, the deceased was born on the Ziegler farm at Maple Shade on July 7, 1840. He had lived there until he came to Oil City 16 years ago.
He married Amanda Haslett, who died July 6, 1917.
Mr. Ziegler is survived by four sons, Myron W., Maple Shade; George, Cranberry; Fred T., of New Kensington, and Arthur A., Oil City; three daughters, Mrs. Emma L. Brown, Oil City; Mrs. Lulu Lynn, Polk, and Mrs. Edna Borland, Spencerville, O. Nineteen grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren also survive.
He also leaves the following brother and sisters: D. E. Ziegler, Erie; Mrs. Priscilla Heath, Oswego, N.Y.; Mrs. Annetta Shaffer, Tulsa, Okla., and Mrs. Lavinia Schaffer, Oil City.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Cranberry M. E. Church. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
