General Notes: Husband - Robert Middleswarth

His education was begun at Beavertown, Pennsylvania, with William Frederick as his first teacher. During his boyhood his parents removed to a farm near Troxelville, and from that time his schooling consisted of only a few weeks in each winter. Having been reared to farm work, he always continued it. On arriving at manhood he rented the old home for seven years, but in 1880 he purchased the place from his father. It contained 150 acres of choice land, and he made many improvements after taking charge. He owned another tract of ten acres, and also had a half-interest in a threshing machine. He retired and gave little attention to business, personally, his tenants managing the farm, but he had always been an active worker, his strength having been remarkable in his youth.
He was a stanch Republican, but invariably declined to accept a place on the ticket, his impaired hearing being a hindrance.
He and his wife were both members of the Lutheran Church, and took a prominent part in religious work. Fraternally, he belonged to the K. G. E., at Adamsburg.
He was always exceedingly fond of hunting, fishing and trapping, and many a night, darkness having overtaken him, he slept in the mountains tributary to the Alleghanies, with only a pine knot as a pillow, a rock as his sheet and the blue sky as his cover. Scores of deer and bear fell under the unerring aim of his trusty rifle; he was a fine marksman with a steady nerve and a keen eye, and had a great store of knowledge of the habits and characteristics of birds and wild animals.
