He was educated at Lewisburg, Union County, Pennsylvania, graduating from Bucknell University in 1888. After spending a year in study in Europe, he studied medicine at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, graduating therefrom, and was then connected with the New York Hospital, the Sloane Maternity Hospital, and the New York Foundling Hospital.
