A native of Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, he came to America [about 1836-1838] and settled in Cranberry township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, where he purchased a farm of 160 acres, upon which he resided until his death. He and his wife were adherents of the Lutheran church, and were among the early members of the Zelienople congregation.
