General Notes: Husband - William B. Howell

He was reared on the farm where he always lived and attended the common schools. His occupation in life was farming and raising thorough-bred stock, especially sheep and hogs. He was director of the Sewickley Industrial Association from the time it was organized in 1877 and was a member of the Grange. Though not a political aspirant, yet he was chosen repeatedly to fill various township offices and served for several years as school director. He enlisted in the State militia in 1863 but was never called into service and at the Irwin celebration of Washington's first inauguration Mr. Howell was made commander of battery B, of Pittsburgh, and was selected to represent Gen. Washington. He was an elder in the Madison Presbyterian church, of which his wife was a member.
