General Notes: Husband - Branton H. Henderson

He was educated in the common schools of Mercer, Pennsylvania, and Allegheny College, Meadville. He early engaged in mercantile pursuits in Mercer, and in 1858 removed to New Castle with his mother. She died in 1871, and in 1872 he and his nephew, Matthias H. Henderson, removed to Sharon, Pennsylvania, where both then resided. Mr. Henderson became interested in the development of the coal fields in 1865, and was largely interested in the iron interests of the valley beginning about 1889. In 1868 he organized the firm of Henderson, Allen & Co., who built the Allen furnace, later known as the Henderson furnace, at Sharpsville, in that year. In 1872 he was one of a company who established the Spearman furnaces of Sharpsville, and for many years he was interested in that enterprise. He was connected with the First National Bank of Sharon beginning in 1873, and vice-president for some years, while his nephew was interested in the Sharon National Bank beginning at its organization in 1875. The Henderson family were Episcopalians in religious faith, and both he and his nephew were prominent members of the Masonic order.
