General Notes: Husband - John Hutchinson Henderson

In 1856 he went from Pennsylvania to Fairland, IN, where he resided until 1859 when he moved to Hendrix County, IN. On March 1, 1862, he returned to Pennsylvania where he enlisted in the Civil War and was assigned to the Second Pa. Heavy Art. Battery A 112th Vol. Wounded June 17, 1864 at Petersburg, Va., by being shot through the thigh and was on crutches for almost one year. Late in the fall of 1870, he removed to a farm near Columbus, KS. He was in the United States Indian Service from July 1889 to 1893, and again from August 1897 until March 1904. He was engaged as a mechanic and engineer with the Indians, working among twenty-four different tribes in the states of Utah and Arizona. He was active in politics and held the office of County Auditor of Mercer County, PA, from 1868 to 1870. In Kansas, he served as Justice of the Peace twelve years and served on the election board of his twp for many years; member of the Grand Army of the Re­public, I. O. O. F. and served as Director of Cherokee County, KS, Fair Association and president one term.
