General Notes: Husband - Justus Henderson

He lived and grew to manhood with his grandfather Henderson, with another fatherless grandson, John Wesley "Jack", son of Margaret. Both figured in a number of escapades. Both served in the Civil War, and later removed to Kansas. Justus taught school for some years, while John Wesley became a prosperous farmer. In early manhood both legally assumed the name of Henderson.

On the death of his father he and his mother returned to her father's home. She later remarried and removed to Iowa. Justus was reared in the home of his grandfather, John, and was adopted. He removed to Iowa and at the outbreak of the Civil War, enlisted August 19, 1862, in Co. D, 24th Inf. Iowa Vols. Mustered out July 17, 1865, at Savanah, Georgia. Place of residence at time of enlistment, Yatton, Iowa. He removed to Gaylord, Kansas, in 1871, and later, 1891, removed to Severy, Kansas, where he engaged in teaching and farming.
