He and his wife lived in Washington County, Pennsylvania, until 1853, when they moved to Mercer County. In 1859 they moved to Lawrence County, and returned to Washington County in 1885. In politics he was a Whig, and later a Republican. In religious faith he was a member of Chartiers United Presbyterian Church.
