He entered the Eclectic Medical College, Indianapolis, Indiana, graduating in 1882 with the degree of Doctor of Medicine. The greater part of his professional life was passed in Mercer County with some periods in Venango and Lawrence counties. Beginning April 1, 1903, he was engaged in active practice in Monessen. While in New Castle, where he spent some time, his specialty was gynaecology, but he later made a specialty of chronic diseases. In 1904 he was a delegate to the National Eclectic Medical convention held in St. Louis. He was a member of the National and State Eclectic Medical Societies, a director of the State Eclectic Medical Association, and belonged to the order of Ben Hur.

He was educated in the common schools and Edinboro State Normal School, and read medicine under Drs. M. R. Boyd and J. R. Borland, of Franklin. He graduated from the Eclectic Medical College of Indianapolis, in 1882, and first located for practice in Westmoreland County. He was in ill health for about fifteen years and did little practice. In 1899 he located in New Castle and as a specialist was thereafter in active practice. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Eclectic Medical Association and the Eclectic National Medical Association. In 1889 he pursued a post-graduate course in the New York Post-Graduate School. He served as a member of the Common Council of New Castle, and, in 1903, was city physician.
