General Notes: Husband - William A. Bowers

He was reared on the home farm in Gaskill township, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, and at the age of twenty-eight he married. He then purchased a farm adjoining the old homestead, built thereon a good house and barn, and continued the cultivation of his land until 1864, when he enlisted in Company F, 58th P. V. I., serving with the Army of the Potomac until the close of the war. While in the service Mr. Bowers was called upon to mourn the death of his wife.
In politics he was a Democrat, and served as assessor, collector, school director and in other township offices. He and his wife were consistent members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church,

He was born in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, and during his childhood came to Jefferson County with his parents. He received a common school education in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, and followed farming all his life, working for his father until his marriage. Later he bought his father's farm about two miles from Big Run, and in addition to agricultural pursuits he was engaged in lumbering, floating considerable timber down the creeks to the market at Pittsburgh. He was quite an active man in his community, serving as school director many years, and for several terms was a tax collector. In political connection he was a Democrat. He belonged to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Jefferson County.
