Shortly after marriage, he and his wife emigrated to America, making a settlement in Washington County, Pennsylvania, where he patented a large tract of land. He cleared a portion of the land, whereon he erected a saw and grist mill, which, despite the incursions and menaces of the natives, he conducted for many years.
