General Notes: Husband - Rev. Bryan S. Hill

He was reared in Chautauqua County, New York, and educated in the common school of those early times. He united with the M. E. Church at the age of fifteen. He early devoted himself to the ministry; first was licensed as an exhorter, then as a local preacher; he was employed by the Presiding Elder as a supply for a year. In 1834 he was received as a member of the Pittsburgh Conference. He was a member of the Erie Conference in 1836; also of General Conference, which convened at Boston in 1852. He supplied the following charges: Forestville, NY; Smithport, PA; Gerry, NY; Sheridan, NY; Warren, PA; Meadville, PA; Warren, OH; Youngstown, OH; New Castle, PA; Greenville, and Albion, PA; Girard and Wattsburg. He was then appointed Presiding Elder of the Jamestown district, with residence at Wattsburg. After two years, he had a severe spell of fever; subsequently filled charges at Wattsburg, and at North East, Erie County, but was compelled to retire from active work, and was placed in superannuated relation. He thereafter lived at Wattsburg. In 1862, without effort or solicitation, he was elected to the Pennsylvania Legislature. He was appointed Postmaster, by President Grant.
