General Notes: Husband - Mathias App

It is likely that he was a son of Christian App. who landed in Philadelphia, Oct. 16, 1751.

The App family is of German extraction, and has been identified with Pennsylvania for several generations. The progenitor of the Snyder County branch was Matthias App, who came from Northampton County at an early date, about 1790, and engaged in farming, merchandising and distilling with such success that he became one of the wealthy men of the locality.
Soon after the war of 1812, he purchased a tract of land opposite to Muncy, Pennsylvania, on the west side of the Susquehanna river, known as Black Hole Valley, and settled thereon five of his children: four of his daughters and his son Frederick.

The first of the family to locate in Penns Township, near Selinsgrove, appears to have come from Northampton county.
"Already in 1766, 'App's Mill' two miles north of (old) mouth of Penns Creek, is mentioned in Maclay's Surveys."
