General Notes: Husband - Peter P. Hilliard

He was the seventh son of his parents.
He received a common school education, and in boyhood commenced to learn the milling business with his father; subsequently became his partner, and at his father's death succeeded to the business, which he continued down to 1888. In August, 1862, he enlisted in Company F, One Hundred and Thirty-fourth Pennsylvania Volunteers, and served eleven months. He was taken prisoner at the battle of Fredericksburg, and was kept in Libby prison for twenty-three days, when he was exchanged. He participated in many hard fought battles, and was mustered out of service with the rank of corporal. He was a Republican, and both he and his wife were members of the Lutheran church.
