General Notes: Husband - Jacob Hilliard, Sr.

He was a soldier in the War of the Revolution, and after its close engaged in farming. In 1802 he located in what is now Washington township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, purchasing 300 acres of land where Oscar Meals would later reside. Soon afterwards he and two of his sons secured a second tract of about 300 acres, and in the course of a few years the family owned about 1200 acres in that locality. He reared a family of nine sons, all of whom lived to a ripe old age, and became heads of families, except Philip, who never married. He died at the age of eighty-one years. He was a man of considerable local influence and prominence, and led an active and useful life.
